George Lamming
Readings, Discussion, Book Signing
Tuesday, April 13th, 1999 – 5:30 p.m.
The first U.S. publication of George Lamming’s Season of Adventure, coupled with new editions of In the Castle of My Skin and Natives of My Person reinforce the prominence of our National Library Week Program featured speaker. When In the Castle of My Skin was first published in 1953, its success placed Mr. Lamming in the vanguard of great Caribbean writers on the subjects of de-colonialism and national reconstruction. It has since become a classic of Caribbean fiction.
The Dictionary of Literary Biography states that Mr. Lamming “conceptualized core facets of the Caribbean experience in language and forms that continue to exercise a shaping influence over the literature of the region.” Mr. Lamming is 1998-1999 Visiting Professor of Creative Writing in the CCNY English Department and Fulbright Scholar in Residence at IRADAC.
