New in Architecture

Students were delighted this September to find Manhattan aerial maps and the very latest versions of the heavily consulted Sanborn maps for Manhattan and Brooklyn in the Architecture Library (S408). These latter maps offer a wealth of detailed site information for both boroughs including building sizes and block and lot numbers, and ownership details for Manhattan buildings. Non-architecture students also consult these maps, finding information useful for a variety of research papers.

Architecture has added subscriptions to several widely respected journals such as L'Arca, El Croquis, and Space Design. We are also purchasing significantly more books including the authoritative Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture, many volumes of both the Architecture in Detail series, each of which focuses on a single notable building, and the GA Architect and GA Houses series, published in Japan. These new additions are a result of special monies from CUNY.

New Staff

A 1996 SUNY/Stony Brook graduate with a B.A. in sociology and a minor in nursing, Natalie Whitfield joined the Cohen Library Circulation Division in June where she greets users with a warm smile. Prior to joining the library staff, Natalie worked at a Manhattan Barnes & Noble bookstore. It’s easy to believe that one of her main interests is reading! Natalie looks forward to a "productive and enjoyable time at CCNY,"and hopes also to resume her nursing studies in the near future.
